Calculating students crunch numbers at finals of provincial math competition
Okanagan College Media Release

Aspiring mathematicians from across the Okanagan Valley will be put to the test at UBC’s Okanagan campus on Friday, May 2, for the final round of the 2014 British Columbia Secondary School Mathematics Contest.

The finalists had the highest test scores in the preliminary round of the competition, which took place on Apr. 2 in participating schools. The finishers from each school in the Grade 8, junior (Grade 9-10) and senior (Grade 11-12) divisions will compete in the finals for prizes, including $200 and a one-semester tuition scholarship (maximum of $3,000) to either Okanagan College or UBC for the senior with the highest score.

Co-sponsored by Okanagan College and UBC, the contest was created in 1990 to promote an interest in mathematics among secondary school students in the Okanagan region. Today, 10 identical regional math competitions occur in B.C. each spring.
