Occupational Health & Safety Program

Contents of Program

The Occupational Health and Safety Program must be designed to prevent injuries and occupational diseases. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the program shall include the following as per WCB regulation 3.4:

POLICY - statement of the employer's aims and responsibilities of the employer, supervisor and workers.

INSPECTION OF PREMISES - Provision for the regular inspection of premises, equipment, work methods and work practices, at appropriate intervals, to ensure that prompt action is undertaken to correct any hazardous conditions found, as required by sections 3.15 - 3.18.

SUPPLEMENTARY INSTRUCTIONS - Appropriate written instructions, available for reference by all workers, to supplement the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

    MANAGEMENT MEETINGS - Provision for holding periodic management meetings for the purpose of reviewing health and safety activities and accident trends, and for the determination of necessary courses of action.

    INVESTIGATION OF ACCIDENTS - Provision for the prompt investigation of accidents to determine the action necessary to prevent their recurrence, as required by sections 3.7 to 3.14.

    RECORDS AND STATISTICS - Maintenance of records and statistics, including reports of inspections and accident investigations, with provision for making this information available to the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and, upon request, to an Officer of the Board, the union representing the workers at the place of employment or, where there is no union, the workers at the place of employment.

    OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE - Establishment and maintenance of an Occupational Health and Safety Committee, constituted and functioning as required by sections 3.5 and 3.6.

INSTRUCTION OF WORKERS - Provision by the employer for the instruction and supervision of workers in the safe performance of their work, as required by section 3.22.
